This is an excellent Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Model 1881 Long Range Rifle. It has a 32.5" barrel with full length walnut stock held by 2 barrel bands. The stock is in very good condition with a minor repair to the forend that can be seen in the photo. The Hotchkiss butt plate is marked "US". The bore is bright and shiny and chambered for the 45-70 government cartridge. The lock is marked "US Springfield 1873". The breech block hand-hammered adorned and is marked "US Model 1873".
